Jammu, Sep 30 (KNO): J&K Bank MD & CEO Amitava Chatterjee on Wednesday flagged off 71 bicycles at IIM Jammu under the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, promoting healthy and eco-friendly mobility on the campus.
In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said the Bank’s MD & CEO Amitava Chatterjee flagged off the bicycles in the presence of Director IIM Jammu Prof B.S. Sahay and the Bank’s GM & Divisional Head (Jammu) Ashok Gupta.
He said also present on the occasion were Prof (Dr) Shakti Gupta; Dean Academics Prof Nitin Upadhyay; Chairperson, Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Skill Development, Dr Muqbil Burhan; Chairperson, Student Affairs, Prof (Dr) Brigadier Neeraj Soni; and Chairperson, Anandam, Prof Shyam Narayan Lal, besides other faculty members, officers, staff and students of the Institute.
The spokesperson said that speaking on the occasion, MD & CEO Amitava Chatterjee said, “Educational institutions shape not only knowledge but also the habits, values and choices of future generations. When students experience sustainability as part of their everyday campus life, it becomes a value they carry into the organisations and communities they go on to lead. This initiative is, therefore, an investment not merely in mobility infrastructure, but in healthier living, environmental awareness and responsible leadership.”
He said, “At J&K Bank, our CSR approach is guided by the enduring impact that an intervention can create. Our partnership with IIM Jammu brings together two institutions committed to shaping a better future - one through education and leadership development, and the other through responsible financial and social engagement. We are pleased to support an initiative that places young people at the heart of climate-conscious change,” he added.
Earlier, Director IIM Jammu Prof B.S. Sahay welcomed and felicitated MD & CEO Amitava Chatterjee and the Bank’s representatives. Acknowledging the Bank’s support under its CSR Programme, he appreciated its contribution towards strengthening sustainable mobility infrastructure at the Institute and promoting healthy and environmentally responsible practices among students.
The spokesperson said the initiative seeks to encourage students to adopt clean, healthy and non-motorised transportation for movement within the campus. The dedicated cycle stands will provide organised parking facilities and support the proper upkeep and sustained use of the bicycles.
He said that by reducing dependence on motorised vehicles for short-distance movement, the initiative is expected to promote active living, ease intra-campus congestion and help lower the institution’s carbon footprint. More importantly, it aims to foster a culture in which environmental responsibility becomes part of daily campus life.
“The initiative further strengthens the institutional relationship between J&K Bank and IIM Jammu. The Bank had previously supported clean and convenient mobility at the Institute by providing five e-carts for use across the campus.”—(KNO)
